Celebrating #QuinneyReads - All School Movie
This Friday, Dec. 23rd from 8-10 a.m. we will be watching the movie Bolt together as a school in final celebration of #QuinneyReads2022.  Bolt was chosen due to the animal theme (including a hamster like Humphrey) and the positive messages of friendship, loyalty, determination, and teamwork.  The EQ PAC is sponsoring an inflatable movie size screen and snacks for our event.  Because the movie is rated PG, we would like to have parental/guardian permission for your child to view a PG movie. Please click here to complete a Google Form including checking your options for permission.

Thank you,
Mrs. Knapp & EQ Staff

    • December Focus = EMPATHY

PurposeFull Pursuit:
Find a time to sit in a circle together and celebrate all the ways you have seen each other practice Empathy. Take turns sharing responses to the following prompts or make up your own! Remember to practice Empathy as you listen to each other.

Celebration Prompts:
What is 1 way a family member has shown you Empathy lately?
Share about a time you worked with a family member to resolve a conflict successfully.

    • January Focus = PERSEVERANCE

Perseverance Newsletter:
We all experience challenges in our lives. Moments when we feel like we can’t do it, or that we want to give up. We need to develop tools to help us work through those challenges in order to grow in those moments instead of giving up. This month's focus for 2nd grade is on practicing Perseverance with the help of engagement.

Conversation Starters:
Can you describe the difference between being getting stuck and having Perseverance?
What does it mean to be engaged at school?

    • December Focus = EMPATHY

PurposeFull Pursuit:

Review Empathy as a family. Remember that Empathy is understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings. Schedule a family movie night so that you can specifically watch for feelings and emotions. Let everyone know that you’d like them to point out how the characters in the show are feeling and that you will pause periodically to discuss Empathy. As emotions are identified, invite one another to Empathize by sharing about a time they felt that way or imagining how they might be feeling in that moment.

Conversation Starters:

  • How have you practiced using the Tree of Choices at school recently? Why is it important to pay attention to how someone else is feeling?

    • December Focus = EMPATHY

PurpuseFull Pursuit:
At school, we use The Emotion Elements to represent different emotions. For us…
  • -Wind represents emotions like silly, nervous, playful, or distracted.
  • -Water represents emotions like sad, lonely, tired, or embarrassed.
  • -Fire represents emotions like angry, frustrated, excited, or scared.
  • -Earth represents emotions like calm, focused, proud, or happy.
As a family, create your own poster showing different emotions. For example: you could use emojis to represent different emotions and label them. Hang your poster in a central location. Each day, designate a time that your student will do an emotion check-in and tap the feeling they felt the most that day. This reminds your student of the emotion vocabulary they are learning at school and gives you insight into how they are feeling. Understanding other people’s feelings can help us grow in Empathy.
Conversation Starters:
  • How can you practice perspective-taking here at home?
  • How do you think your Kindness can make the biggest difference?
