    Homecoming Spirit Oct. 3-7!!!

During the week of Oct. 3-7, Electa Quinney Elementary will be celebrating homecoming along with the High School.  To help all of our elementary students to feel a part of the festivities, we will have dress-up days as follows:

Monday, Oct. 3 :  PJ Day
    Tuesday, Oct. 4 :    Disney/Superhero Day
Wednesday, Oct. 5 :   Sports Theme
Thursday, Oct. 6 :   Crazy Sock or Hat Day
Friday, Oct. 7 :   Orange/Black Kaukauna Spirit Wear

There will be a parade again this year.  It will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 6:00 PM and is being held at Kaukauna High School due the construction downtown.
We would like students to enjoy the fun and spirit of the parade so our Elementary Schools will not walk in the homecoming parade.

        It is Safety Week!

The Kaukauna Area School District makes school safety a priority. We implement safety drills on a regular basis which include fire, tornado, hold, lockdown and evacuation. All of our buildings are equipped with safe entrances and security cameras throughout. In light of unfortunate events that have happened throughout the world, we have adopted a philosophy with how we prepare students for the potential of having an intruder in our schools. ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) strategies provide students and staff with options to stay safe, make safe choices and save as many lives as possible. To learn more about the ALICE strategies please visit the following webpage: http://www.alicetraining.com/what-we-do/alice-components/k-12/

In recognition of the importance of practicing these drills early in the school year, the Kaukauna Area School District has established School Safety Week. In an effort to accommodate scheduling at each school within the district, the initial drills (outlined below) will run between September 19 and September 23 . During these five school days, students will be exposed to all of our safety drill procedures and the ALICE strategies. To assist students with understanding ALICE, we have implemented the following plan:

Throughout the week, students will take part in the following activities:
        • 4K-grade 4 students will listen to and discuss the book I'm Not Scared, I'm Prepared! Because I Know All About ALICE by Julia Cook.
        • Fire Drill
        • Tornado Drill
        • Hold/Lockdown Drill
        • Evacuation to Rally Points Drill (this will involve students and staff relocating to a location near their school, but off the school grounds).
        • If you do not give consent for your child to practice moving to the rally point with their teacher and classmates, please contact the principal.
Please know the intent of featuring these drills in September is to educate, protect and stimulate conversation among teachers and students. Your child/children will likely come home and share information with you as well. If you should have any questions or concerns prior to the drills, or following Safety Week, please contact Mrs. Knapp.

        Monthly Student Raffle Prizes

        Hello Quinney Families,

For the past few years, we have found a way to acknowledge students who continually show the Quinney ABC’s (Act Respectful, Be Responsible, Come Ready to Learn) and the students and staff really enjoyed it! So we're going to implement it again this year...it's called the Quinney ABC Raffle. Students have a chance each month to earn tickets for a drawing for fantastic prizes. Each month there are at least six prizes to choose from. The prizes are donated by staff and families. If you would be willing to donate prizes we would greatly appreciate your support.

This year, we are requesting that prizes come directly from Amazon. We’ve made it easy for you by creating a wishlist on Amazon. You can order directly from Amazon and the item can be shipped to Quinney. Just click  here Quinney ABC’s Raffle Prizes  to bring you to the wish list. When you checkout, select to have it shipped to Electa Quinney. Please check yes to the gift receipt so we can make sure to thank you for your support.

Thank you so much for considering our request.

            Meet our School Counselors

My name is Kristin Kozelek and I am one of the counselors here. This is my second year in the Kaukauna Area School District and as part of the Quinney and NDLC community. This year I am fortunate enough to be in the building full time and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

My name is Sam Van Zeeland, and I'm the new School Counselor! I spend half my days at Quinney/NDLC and the other half at Park. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and your students!

Your child will see us every few weeks for guidance as part of the specials rotation for all students.  We also offer individual and small group counseling for students who need this additional support.

Please feel free to reach out to either one of us at any time about any questions or concerns you have for your child.

            Report a Daily Absence

We request that parents/guardians call the automated absence line at 759-6159 or report the absence on your Parent Portal online account each day your child is unable to attend school. These services are available for your use before and after school hours. Please indicate the reason your child will not be at school. If your child will be absent due to illness, please include specific illness symptoms. Our Administrative Assistant will follow up on any unexcused absence according to the Student Attendance Policy #430. If a call or previous notification of an absence has not been received by 8:00 AM, (or 12:30 PM for afternoon 4K students) you will be called to determine why your child is not in attendance. This will assure both you and the school that your child is safe.

            NEW:  No Homework Model

After much discussion and research we have decided to move to the “No Homework Model”. We hope this alleviates some additional stress on families and allows for more family time with your child. Research says that homework in Primary school has zero effect on academic achievement. Your child will not be bringing home nightly homework, but will be expected to read 15-20 minutes each night.

Your child’s teacher may be sending home additional items for your child to work on if they did not finish in class. The teacher will be in contact with you if this is the case.

                  Morning Drop Off

The earliest students are allowed to be dropped off is 7:35am.
AM supervision outside will begin at 7:35am daily on the playground blacktop. The AM bells rings at 7:45am which signals all students to enter school. Class begins at 7:50am.

Running Late Picking Up After School?

If your child is picked up after school after most children/staff have dispersed from the playground, your child will be waiting near the picnic tables on the playground near the corner of the school where there will be supervision until 3:20 PM. In the event that you are late, for the safety of your child, the supervisor will bring them into the office so that you can be contacted.

Leaving for Appointments & Phone Calls During the Day

If your child has an appointment that requires them to leave during the school day, please include a note in the agenda planner. Having the information in the morning will help have your child ready in a timely manner when you arrive to pick them up. When you arrive to pick up your child, please come into the office to sign them out. Your child will be called down at that time, we do not allow students to wait in the lobby for their safety.

Your phone calls are important to us! When calling during the school day, please be aware that you may be transferred to the staff member's voicemail if it is during instructional time. We work hard to avoid interrupting instructional time if at all possible. If an immediate message is needed, please let the office staff know and that message will be delivered via note/in person to the staff member.

                  Thank you for understanding!

                  What I Learned Wednesday

All Wednesday’s at Electa Quinney will be “What I Learned Wednesday”. The students homework for that day (no other assigned homework) is to reflect on “What They Learned” in the last week. Teachers have autonomy to decide how they want to carry this out which could include students turning something in for reflection or just a share together on Thursday morning after they reflected/shared with family at home on Wednesday. Our hope is to bring an easy prompt for discussion for our students and families!

                  Exciting! New Logo!

Electa Quinney is excited to announce we have a new Cougar logo! You will see the new logo in all of our publications. Later this month we will have a PAC sponsored EQ Apparel sale. Watch your email for further information.
