After a two year hiatus, the Color Run/Walk is back!!!  It will be new and exciting as we will hold it DURING THE SCHOOL DAY on the afternoon of May 31st allowing ALL students to participate.  With that there will be some tweaks and changes such as location and length of the run/walk keeping it on the EQ block and making it shorter in length.  The event brought huge fun and enjoyment in 2017, 2018 and 2018 for our students and school community.  The PAC made the choice early in the year to keep other fundraisers small and focus our efforts on this as our one big fundraiser for the school year.  The format for signing up and raising funds will be similar to last year’s Readathon. Student feedback from the 2021 Readathon included a request for a dunk tank, so this year the dunk tank has been added.  Watch for more to come about this celebratory event!  Volunteers will be needed.  More to come at the start of May!

PurposeFull People Respect & Responsibility Family Activity

ResponsibilityAs a family, brainstorm ways in which you might make someone’s life a little easier by helping a neighbor or family friend with one of their responsibilities. Could you bring your neighbor’s garbage cans in off of the curb when you get yours? Could you offer to sweep the street in front of their house after they’ve mowed the lawn? Could you make an extra portion of a meal and take half to share?

Respect
Research other cultures with a real or virtual family field trip. Maybe there’s a Native Indian Museum close by? Or an exhibit on the Royals in England coming to a museum near you? It could even just be a field trip to eat dinner at a German restaurant. Notice similarities and differences in the culture(s) that you experience and talk about them after the trip is over!

PurposeFull People Respect & Responsibility Family Activity

Responsibility: Choose one household chore (or more!) that requires multiple steps. Then have each member of the family select one step to complete and collaborate to get the job done! Maybe it is washing the dinners, doing laundry, cleaning the living room, unloading the groceries – whatever it is, see who can be the most fast or effective at their piece of the puzzle!

Responsibility
: We can demonstrate Responsibility by doing more than is expected. As a family, brainstorm tasks that can be completed at home that are not part of everyday chores. Write each idea on a popsicle stick and place them in a cup. Encourage family members to pull out an “action stick” when they have spare time and complete the task to demonstrate Responsibility.
Here are some ideas: Organize the children’s bookshelf, find 5 items in house to donate, organize art supplies, clean out the junk drawer, go on a neighborhood walk and pick up trash, weed the garden…the possibilities are endless! Role model what it looks like to go above and beyond and challenge members of your family to see if they can keep up.

Respect
: Invite neighbors, families from school, or other community members over to share your culture with them. This may be sharing a meal, celebration, or activity that shares a piece of who you are and what is important to you. During the event, ask those you invited to share something about their culture that is important to them!

Respect
: Talk with your family about ways you can show Respect to your neighbors. Choose a way to “deliver” Respect to a family who lives nearby. As an added challenge, include a respectful note and challenge your neighbor to “pass it on” by spreading Respect to another neighbor.

Respectful delivery ideas:
Deliver cookies
Shovel snow
Rake leaves
Deliver flowers
Take up the trash cans

PurposeFull People Respect & Responsibility Family Activity

Responsibility: In this challenge, you will carve out time as a family to head to a local park or beach or neighborhood or public space to help beautify it by picking up the trash. Grab some rubber gloves, some garbage sacks, and some germy gel and enjoy some togetherness time while demonstrating what it means to “do your part” and show Responsibility for your community!
Respect: To show Respect for diversity and to celebrate other cultures and their customs, research a traditional recipe for your family to try from your own culture or from another culture that you know exists in your community. Make that dish and share with your family about its background and its significance.
