    Lunch Menu

Safety is our highest priority during arrival and dismissal.  To ensure that every child is safe, teachers and support staff are assigned to monitor areas and to escort students to dismissal areas.  We worked with Kobussen, Safe Routes to School, the City of Kaukauna and the Kaukauna Police Department to form a plan that will help with arrival and dismissal traffic but even more importantly, student safety.  Teachers will review before and afterschool procedures with students in the first weeks of school and we want you to know those procedures and practices as well.  As a reminder for our families and visitors here are the important information and reminders about arrival and dismissal...

Arrival -  7:35 - 7:50 – Supervision of the children by support staff begins at 7:35 AM.  Children should not arrive at school prior to 7:35 AM. Students walking, being dropped off, or taking the bus should report to the playground until 7:45 AM when the first bell rings.  Class begins at 7:50 AM.

Walker – Any child who walks off school grounds to either:  A.  Go home  B.  To meet a parent parked off school grounds.  Staff will accompany walkers to the playground at 3:10 and they will leave from that location.  WALKERS CANNOT BE PICKED UP FROM THE STAFF PARKING LOTS DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS.  Students are permitted to ride bicycles/scooters to school but are asked to get off their bike/scooter and walk their bike/scooter to the bike rack.  Locks for bikes and scooters are recommended as the schools are not responsible for damage, loss, or theft.  Walkers are to stay on sidewalk areas and obey school and crossing guard personnel.

Buser – Any child who takes the bus home is considered a buser. If your child is assigned to a bus, please have them use this mode of transportation.  Many of our students are assigned to bus transportation, and this is a safe and efficient means of dismissal.  Staff will accompany the line of bus students to Gym B to line up and then staff will also walk the bus lines out to load the buses in the bus loop.  ALL bus students will unload and load in the front loop of the school. Absolutely no car traffic is permitted in the bus zone at arrival/dismissal times.  No vehicles will be permitted in this area during the school day..

Parent/Guardian Drop-off and Pickup – Students being picked up by a parent/guardian will be accompanied to the playground by staff.  Parent drop off can take place along Sullivan Avenue, Ann St. or St. Mary’s Place. We ask that Sullivan Avenue is used as a “hug and go” site for parents to drop off. There will be no parking or unattended vehicles. This area is intended for parents to drop their children off and depart.

Parents that are interested in walking with their child to the playground will need to park on Ann Street or St. Mary’s Place. We ask this to help with traffic congestion in the morning.

Any change in arrival/dismissal should be indicated in writing and communicated to the teacher and office staff.

    Safety Over Convenience

    • Adults and students parking on the opposite of school grounds need to cross at crosswalks.
    • Parents are encouraged to use the “Hug and Go” area on Sullivan Avenue. Students are then able to exit cars from the sidewalk side of the vehicle and parents/guardians can continue on their way without delay.

It remains our highest priority to ensure that students arrive and are dismissed from school in a safe and organized way. We ask everyone to correctly follow our pick-up and drop-off procedures. Failure to do so creates chaos, frustration and unsafe conditions. Each family should discuss these drop-off and pick-up procedures together. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in following these procedures, which will create a safe and efficient start and end to each school day.

We have included a map for your reference.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our building safe! Please let us know if you have questions.

    Important reminders:

    • North Loop (closest to the building) is for Special Education needs.
    • South Loop (closest to County Road CE) is for Staff Parking and K-4 grade Buses ONLY.
    • Visitor parking for parents/guardians needing to “enter the building” is located in the North Loop (closest to the building).
    • The West side of Sullivan Avenue (along the playground) is best used as HUG & GO drop off.  When entering the HUG & GO zone, please pull forward as far as possible to allow for additional cars. Students exit the vehicle next to the sidewalk. Once you have dropped off your child please exit the HUG & GO area quickly.  No parking or standing.

THANK YOU for using CROSSWALKS to cross streets!  Crossing between cars of mid-street is DANGEROUS and we continue to re-teach students to use crosswalks for safety.

    Morning Classroom Lines Outside

    • All 4th grade students and students in 3-D, 3-W, 3-K line up in the morning at the lines that near the back of the blacktop area where the on the sidewalk goes to the back of the school.  The staff will meet students there and bring the classroom lines up the sidewalk together to enter Door #7 at the rear of the school.  Line order is on the left below.
    • All 2nd grade students and students in 3-G and 3Mc line up in the morning at the lines right outside of Door #11.   The staff will meet students there and bring the classroom lines in together through Door #11 after the 7:45 bell.  Line order is on the right below.
    • We will also have cones with pictures of the teachers on them at the line area.

Running Late Picking Up After School?

If your child is picked up after school after most children/staff have dispersed from the playground, your child will be waiting near the picnic tables on the playground near the corner of the school where there will be supervision until 3:20PM.   For safety and supervision, we ask that students do not wait on the playground/playground equipment area.  In the event that you are late, for the safety of your child, the supervisor will bring them into the office so that you can be contacted at 3:20PM.

    Report a Daily Absence

We request that parents/guardians call the automated absence line at 759-6159, call Quinney school at 766-6116 or report the absence on your Parent Portal online account each day your child is unable to attend school. Please indicate the reason your child will not be at school. If your child will be absent due to illness, please include specific illness symptoms. Our Administrative Assistant will follow up on any unexcused absence according to the Student Attendance Policy #430. If a call or previous notification of an absence has not been received by 8:00 AM, you will be called to determine why your child is not in attendance. This will assure both you and the school that your child is safe.

Leaving for Appointments & Phone Calls During the Day

If your child has an appointment that requires them to leave during the school day, please include a note in the agenda planner. Having the information in the morning will help have your child ready in a timely manner when you arrive to pick them up. When you arrive to pick up your child, please come into the office to sign them out. Your child will be called down at that time, we do not allow students to wait in the lobby for their safety.

Your phone calls are important to us! When calling during the school day, please be aware that you may be transferred to the staff member's voicemail if it is during instructional time. We work hard to avoid interrupting instructional time if at all possible. If an immediate message is needed, please let the office staff know and that message will be delivered via note/in person to the staff member.

    Thank you for understanding!

    Quinney 2023-24 Homework Policy

Every night your child will be expected to read 15-20 minutes. Reading at home  develops a readerly lifestyle and an enjoyment for reading.

Last year we instituted a No Homework policy.  We did find this alleviated some additional stress on families and allowed for more family time with your child. We also found that families wanted more involvement with the home/school connection.  As we move into the 2023-2024 school year we will continue to limit homework, however, we may be sending home certain work that we need your help with, along with their nightly reading.

    A few possible examples are:

    • personal narrative ideas for your child

    • family tree information

    • star student items and poster filled out

    • Items needed for special celebrations (100 of something for the 100th day of school)

Again, these are just examples, not all classes will need the above and the examples do not cover everything we might need parent help with.

Assignments may be sent home for your child to work on if they did not finish in class or were absent from school. You will be informed  through the agenda or an email home if this is the case.

Please continue to check your child’s agenda every night and sign it.

If you would like to help your child with extra practice at home, please contact your child’s teacher for suggestions.

Thank you so much for your continued support of your child’s education.

    School Counselor Updates:

    Hello Electa Quinney Families!

My name is Kristin Kozelek and I am one of the counselors here. This is my second year in the Kaukauna Area School District and as part of the Quinney and NDLC community. This year I am fortunate enough to be in the building full time and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

My name is Sam Van Zeeland, and I'm the other school counselor at Quinney and NDLC! I spend half my days at Quinney/NDLC and the other half at Park. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and your students!

Your child will see us every few weeks for guidance as part of the special rotation for all students. We also offer individual and small group counseling for students who need this additional support.

Please feel free to reach out to either one of us at any time about any questions or concerns you have for your child.

    Dear Family,

We are thankful for you being part of our school community! The world is changing quickly and we want to do everything we can to help students be successful in school and life.

We are excited to tell you that we will be using a program called PurposeFull People this year. This program teaches skills that will help students be successful in school and in life.

We believe that students should have safe, predictable places to learn where they feel included. Students should have healthy and helpful connections with teachers and classmates. They should also experience learning that will help them tackle challenges inside and outside of school. PurposeFullPeople is more than a set of lessons - it is a partnership between schools and families to create a place where students feel like they belong and learn skills that will help them be the best they can be!

Purposefull People has three main goals for students: Be Kind, Be Strong, and Be Well.

    ● Be Kind: Social skills like listening, friendship, solving conflicts, and leadership. ○ These skills are taught alongside Empathy, Respect, & Cooperation
    ● Be Strong: Skills that help students focus, stay organized, and set goals.
    ○ These skills are taught alongside Responsibility, Courage, & Perseverance
    ● Be Well: Skills that help students handle their emotions and deal with stress.
    ○ These skills are taught alongside Gratitude, Honesty, & Creativity

This year, you’ll be invited to join the fun! We will send letters home about the skills and strengths being taught each month. Each letter will include some ways to build these skills at home, discussion starters, and fun challenges you can try with your family.

The path forward is full of growth! We cannot wait to partner with you in this work…
    ● To teach students how to build strong friendships
    ● To work together to solve problems, big and small
    ● To grow skills for life
    ● To become PurposeFull People

PurposeFULL People = RESPECT & KINDNESS

    PurposeFull Pursuit:
In the world, we need to be able to interpret “why” and “how” situations happen and then respond appropriately to that information. By practicing Respect, we can improve communication and reduce misunderstandings when interacting with our community. This month's focus is on practicing Respect by practicing perspective-taking.

    Conversation Starters:
    • What does Respect mean in your own words?
    • Why do you think it is important to use perspective-taking when practicing Respect?

    What is Kindness?

What do you think it means to be Kind?
Let’s listen to the Kindness song to learn all about how to be Kind!
Invite students to stand up and sing along.
Then, practice repeating the definition of Kindness together.

    Reflection

    • What did you learn about Kindness from the song?
    • Can you think of a time you showed Kindness to someone?
    • How can we show kindness at school or at home?

    Community Events and Activity Flyers

There are a great many worthy undertakings in the Kaukauna Area School District that understandably deserve public support. The Board of Education/School District assist with this process in providing notice to students and/or families of certain non-school-related community activities/programs that are for public school-age students (that apply and meet policy conditions). Click here or visit the school district website to view the up to date list of events and flyers
